New painting – Stourhead

This 6×4″ painting shows the bridge and Temple of Flora at Stourhead Estate in Wiltshire, England. If you watched Sky Arts Landscape Artist Of The Year 2015, you’ll recognise it as the location for the grand final. I wanted to make my own painting of it.

I’m experimenting with using Daler Rowney sepia acrylic ink in a Lamy Safari fountain pen (EF nib) rather than the black Copic Multiliners I normally use for drawing. I think it’s a softer look more suited to landscape, but I’d love to hear your opinion. I actually got the idea from reading The Art Of My Neighbour Totoro. The paint, as always, is M. Graham watercolour.

This card is for someone on the Postcard Art Group.

  1. Nice, tranquil scene. One suggestion may be to find a way to use lighter outlines for the distant objects. The colors are paler in the distances, giving a good sense of depth, but the darkness of the outlines counteracts that a little. 🙂
