Standing Stones

Some time ago I won two free sketchbooks from Stillman and Birn. I already used one of their sketchbooks (an A4 size Beta series, lovely heavy cold press watercolour paper), so I was delighted to try the Zeta series (hot press). The sketchbooks are 5.5x8x5″ and 3.5x5x5″. I decided to devote the larger one to landscapes and the smaller one to portraits. You’ve already seen the first of the portraits (Emma) in another post.

For this picture of standing stones I turned to the wonderful site Morguefile.com which contains thousands of images uploaded by people who give their blessing for them to be used for reference, which is very kind.

I find now I’m routinely using a Pilot V-Ball 05 pen and a full set of Cotman watercolour pans. I do own better pens and better paints, but for some reason I find I work much better with these. Make of that what you will!
